Last night, I made my kids watch the debate for homework. Some did the perfunctory opening 10 minutes, which was all I asked for. A huge number watched at least 30 minutes, and five or six watched the whole thing.
It amused me greatly that one of them came in & announced that Sarah (they call them Sarah, Joe, John & Barack...don't know why Obama gets a last name & the others don't, but...) hadn't really answered any of the questions. I could not stop laughing. Except, as the teacher, I can't really laugh hysterically at one of the political candidates. I was just so proud of this child for having the insight to realize she really hadn't answered any of the questions effectively.
Another one of my kids came in during homeroom gushing over 'Sarah'. By the end of the day, the other ones had set him straight & he couldn't really come up with the reasons why he liked her in the first place. But he did come up with many things his classmates had said that made him change his mind. I have some really interesting kids this year. | |
